Elevating Noob School with Strategic Branding and Marketing

Partnering with a sales leader to tell his story, build the brand and enhance offerings.

Industry: B2B Services

Role: Fractional CMO, 1 year and counting

John Sterling is an accomplished sales executive, having lead the sales team at Datastream, taking the company public and later assisting in its sale for over $200M. Noob School, under John's guidance, aims to empower new salespeople to find success in their careers. As the Fractional CMO, I've had the opportunity to orchestrate Noob School's marketing and branding strategy, content channels, and the publication of John's book, "Sales for Noobs."

Challenge:

The primary challenge was to construct a robust brand identity for Noob School and make it a go-to resource for sales professionals starting their journey. This involved creating a dynamic website, strategizing and executing content across various channels, and successfully publishing and promoting John's book.

Strategy:

I adopted a multi-faceted approach to address these challenges:

  • Brand Building: We started with the creation of Noob School's brand, which was seeded in the development of a comprehensive brand strategy, including audience identification and competitive analysis. The outputs included establishing its mission, vision, values, tagline, and logo.

  • Website Development: Following the bran development, I managed the full-scale development of the Noob School website. This included crafting an effective SEO strategy, conducting extensive research, and creating engaging content. The website was designed on the Wix platform, adhering to the established brand guidelines.

  • Content Channel Management: My responsibilities extended to managing all of John's content channels. This ranged from podcast videos and press articles to social media channels and paid advertisements. I optimized John's YouTube strategy, integrating SEO and other tactics to improve visibility and engagement.

  • Book Publication: The publication of John's book, "Sales for Noobs," was an integral part of our initial partnership. I oversaw the book's design, layout, and production while coordinating with Sit N Spin for audio, video and promotion needs. This collaboration led to the successful publication of the book and its accompanying audio version.

Results:

The comprehensive marketing strategy yielded significant results, including:

  • Enhanced Brand Visibility: The cohesive brand strategy led to a stronger brand identity, attracting more budding sales professionals to Noob School.

  • Increased Website Traffic: The SEO-optimized website experienced an uptick in traffic, with particular pages earning high landings, signifying effective SEO implementation.

  • Improved Social Media Engagement: All social media channels experienced increased traction, marking higher engagement with the target audience.

  • Successful Book Publication: John's book, "Sales for Noobs," was successfully published and received well, further enhancing Noob School's credibility as a sales training platform.

Key Takeaways:

The journey with Noob School exemplifies how strategic brand building, effective content management, and well-coordinated publication efforts can substantially boost a brand's visibility and engagement. As a Fractional CMO, I continue to partner with John to facilitate Noob School's growth.
